ACMP UK Webinar: how to use communication + connectivity to make change spread

Presenters
Laura House and Naomi Goodman, Cofounders, the-thread
Introduction
Research shows that performance, productivity and profitability are driven by a strong company culture. But the working world as we knew it has transformed. Hybrid or remote working is now the norm and experts agree that it’s here for the long-term.
So, what does this mean for change professionals? In a world where we’re all online most of the time, how does this new kind of working culture affect our ability to effectively drive change? Whilst individual ‘task-focused’ productivity may be up in the short term, hybrid working puts effective collaboration and innovation at serious risk. How can we influence disparate and disconnected employees to take on new behaviours and ideas when many of the channels, networks and relationships we once relied on are changing, deteriorating, or have vanished altogether?
In this webinar, we’ll explore how to apply the latest thinking on effectively spreading behaviour change and new ideas inside organisations whose employees are interacting more in the virtual world than ever before. We’ll show you new ways of creating connection to engage leaders and employees, make change happen and build a productive, performance driven culture.

I started out in public relations and about three years into my career moved into all things employee communications. As an experienced senior communicator, I specialise in communications for change and transformation and combine this, with my expertise as a certified Prosci change management practitioner, to help identify and activate solutions that truly deliver business value.
Before co-founding the-thread, I was a Board Director at Lansons, a reputation management consultancy. I’m also an active member of the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC), a career mentor and a regular judge for the Institute of Internal Communication’s (IoIC)National Annual Awards.
I’ve led communications and culture change programmes for both the public and private sector. This includes leading the change communication workstream for a Government’s health and care transformation programme affecting 85,000 residents; delivering a global internal engagement audit and implementing recommendations for Upfield, to help it establish its own culture and identity post separation from Unilever; and being the global change communications lead on transformation programmes for companies including Roche, Novartis and Damco.
I’m sector agnostic, blending my breadth and depth of experience with each client’s unique challenge.
Other brands I’ve worked with include Abbott Pharmaceuticals, Akka Technologies, Bacardi, Capgemini, Deutsche Bank, DHL Supply Chain, Fujitsu, Highways England, HSBC, Intercontinental Hotels Group, Intelliflo, Invesco, Investec, Metropolitan Police Service, MSD/Merck, OneFamily and Thales – to name a few!
I’m passionate about connecting people to their potential. Embracing change is a major part of that journey. It’s why, as well as my change management background, I’m also training as a teacher with Deepak Chopra and The Chopra Center to learn techniques to build employees’ inner resilience and increase their potential for change.

Laura House
I have a consultancy career spanning two decades. For the past four years, I ran my own consultancy, leading strategic change communications projects for multiple clients including RSA Insurance Group, GSK, National Grid and Dixons Carphone. Previously, I was an award-winning consultant at a number of global communications agencies, including Ogilvy and H+K Strategies. When Director of People + Purpose at H+K, I successfully re-named, re-launched and led the practice, to its most successful period in recent history, growing the team from two to 12 people within a year whilst also simplifying and revitalizing the practice’s offer.
With my team, I partnered with a wide spectrum of clients to bring fresh thinking to internal communications. For example, for financial services clients we used behavioural science principles to influence outcomes within a change environment, and modernised approaches to engagement with content and publishing strategies for pharmaceutical clients.
I joined H+K Strategies in 2010 as a Senior Consultant, leading a number of strategic communications projects over the next four years, including an eight-month secondment as Communications Director to the CMO of IHG. Prior to this I developed award-winning benefits communications aimed at hard-to-reach audiences for Buck Consultants for clients such as Zurich Insurance and National Car Rental. I‘ve also had significant experience delivering employee communications within integrated brand and reputation campaigns during my five-year stint at Ogilvy, as well as experience with large-scale transformation projects, for clients such as TfL, BP and Cisco.
I get inspiration and insight from my background in theatre and enjoy using creative practices and techniques from that world to create meaningful and engaging workplace experiences.
