Creative and relentlessly optimistic Steve leads change, communication and customer transformation activities working with a range of organisations and companies in the public, third and private sectors.
Since summer 2004 Steve has worked as a freelance contractor with a focus on the development and piloting of new education and assessment products and processes, including how they are introduced to institutions and how they are regulated.
Working for a high street bank for 2 years in the early-1980s provided an insight in to the organisation of at volume activities and the importance of efficient processes, empowerment linked with quality assurance and at the end of the day, tills having to balance and be the same as the computer entered records!
Following training as a youth worker and working with a range of young people from the Brecon Beacons to North Germany, Holland and Norway a move to London meant an introduction to the public sector. This included working on national education programmes including testing of children at 7, 11 and 14, a review of higher education (including the introduction of tuition fees) and a new national curriculum and approaches to assessment.
This provided a springboard into activities using process (project and product management tools, including Prince2) working for a educational software company on produce development, with a regulator of awarding bodies and qualifications, and for a range of organisations developing proposals, helping drive large procurements or dealing with activities that had gone ‘tricky’.
In the 2010s, there was a shift of focus to a ‘parallel universe’ of marketing and communications which took place and the focus shifted onto transforming customer experiences and driving change through evidenced based research, rather than by whim or the IT department!
